i do not think u can. escort gt's have a heater computer. it hooks to the heater core. when the heater core tells the computer theres no water it will not let the car start. i am not a hundred percent sure on this but I'm almost positive.I am having trouble with a leaking heater core on my 1991 Ford Escort GT 1.8L. Looking at mine from underneath you see the two heater hoses going to the heater core at the firewall. I don't see any reason you couldn't simply remove the hoses from the heater core and connect them together so that antifreeze simply flows from one hose to the other (bypassing the core). Secure them in some way so that they don't flop around and become damaged. When you disconnect them they will be full of antifreeze so be prepared accordingly. Also realize that you will no longer have any heat or defrost available.
