Another note of interest, if the shifter feels stiff while moving it, it is probably also an issue with the trans selector shaft, as these rust and bind inside the trans, which can cause premature cable bushing wear. You can lube these with engine oil if not oo bad, or just have it replaced at a dealer, as the trans has to come apart for this issue. Good luck.
No. It should only spark with the engine turning over.
Ck battery
If the engine will not turn over, that is, sound like it is turning, then the trouble is a dead battery or really bad battery clamps. If the engine will not 'catch' and start running, then there are a number of causes, one of which is having no fuel.
No, a rusted harmonic balancer will not prevent the engine from turning over.
The VATS security system prevents the starter from turning and thus the engine from turning over. Also, the entire ignition system is not activated unless the proper VATS key is used.
If by turning over you mean the starter spinning the engine, no. If the engine is locked up (try turning it clockwise by the crank bolt), then you've either thrown a rod or broken a timing chain.
If the engine is "cranking" then it is "turning over". Please be more specific.
That depends what's making it not spark! A Hyundai will not energize the fuel pump unless the engine is turning over. If it has no spark the computer probably does not realize the engine is turning over, and therefor not energizing the fuel pump. Maybe you have a bad crank sensor. Using a scan tool that can see datastream check the engine RPM while cranking. If it says zero then you have a problem with what senses engine RPM. Also check to see if you broke your timing belt(These cars are notorious for that) If that is the case you should start shopping for a used engine.
I'm confused, do you mean when you are going in reverse or turning the engine over in reverse direction?
need more info on that one. what sound can you hear when trying to start, if engine is not turning over.
pull the spark plug out and start turning the engine over and watch the water fly!
If "crank over" means the starter is turning the engine over but the engine won't run, I would suspect fuel pump failure, not uncommon.
