More information needed here I think so just some guesswork follows. If a hot engine is left idling after a run,the temperature guage will rise due to heat rising from all the hot components and no ram air through the engine compartment,the electric fan will cut in and out(is this the "revving"you hear). If your engine is running hot when driving along,it is most likely the thermostat is stuck in closed position,this needs rapid attention or engine damage can result.Check coolant level when cold and if you have to drive it,keep the heater set hot to increase the amount of coolant in circulation.
take your foot off the gas pedal.
You need a new IAC Idle Air Control.
ould be a faulty sensor or idle control motor. Try a diagnostic test.

you have to turn the idle screw down ?? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? there are 2 of them. one on the right and one on the left. the left one is general idle and the one on the right is for air-conditioning idle and high power output idle ( rev higher ) A vacuum line may have come off if it has started revving.

Try changing or cleaning out the stepper motor, this controls the idle and is a common fault on the 306.
The idle speed on modern computer controlled vehicles is not adjustable. If you are having idle problems you will need to take the car to a mechanic.
