Because on the door open light is a switch which says " on-off-door". Apparently yours is in the "on" position which will, in time, run your battery down.

The new Polo (2011) does not have "Daytime driving lights". It is fitted with "Permanent driving lights". The lights on cars with Daytime running lights can be switched off by using one of the stalks on the steering wheel, or by removing a fuse (daytime driving lights are on a seperate light circuit) Permanent driving lights cannot be switched off. If hte fuse is removed it will disable your headlights and backlights altogether. The only way to disable it is to remove the rotary light switch and cover the pin marked "TFL"

Check the footwell storage bins are closed properly - there is a sensor in the lock mechanism which engages the footwell lights when open. You might need to lift the release catch whilst depressing the lid to ensure it closes correctly.

there is a wire and plug jus under your glovebox in the pasenger side footwell. if you plug that back in the lights will work properly again.
your brake light switch is probably out
they are two different lights. replace the light that is malfunctioning, but check the fuses first. It's the cheapest way out.
