Best Answer

Light requires nothing more than a source for transmission. sound requires a source and a medium to conduct it. In vacuum, there is no conductor for sound.

Can light and sound travel through vacuum?

Light can. Sound can't.

What can light travel through that sound cant travel through?

light can travel through a vacuum whereas sound cant

Can light travel though a vacuum?

Yes, but sound can not.

What will light travel through that sound won't?

A vacuum.

Can light travel in a vacuum?

Yes. Light waves are electromagnetic waves, which do not require a medium to travel through.Mechanical waves (such as sound) do require a medium to travel through, so sound waves cannot travel through a vacuum.Space is a vacuum. The light from the stars (including our own sun) travel across a great distance in a vacuum to get to us.The accepted speed of light is its speed in a vacuum, which is 299,792,458 m/s.

How is light different from sound?

Sound is the vibration of molecules and atoms. Light is made up of things called "light quanta" or "photons." This means that sound cannot travel through a vacuum (there are obviously no molecules or atoms in a vacuum to transmit sound) but light can.

How do you differentiate light waves from sound waves?

You can see light waves (or particles . . .) but you cannot hear them. sound must travel thru matter , light can travel thru vacuum

Why does the sound not travel through vacuum?

The sound not travel through vacuum because sound need a medium to travel.

Which wave would travel fastest in a vacuum light or sound?

Sound cannot go through vaccum

What does sound go faster through a vacuum or a solid?

Sound travels faster through a solid than through a vacuum. In a solid, sound waves propagate through the material's molecules, leading to faster transmission. In a vacuum, there are no molecules to transmit sound, so it cannot travel at all.

Light can travel through a vacuum as is evidenced when you see the sun or the moon. Can sound travel through a vacuum also?

No, sounds cannot travel through a vacuum. This is because sound requires a medium to travel through because it requires the vibration of particles to travel and there need to be particles to vibrate for it to travel through.

How fast can sound travel through a vacuum?

Sound cannot travel through a vacuum.
