Why on a 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo- the turn signals and the hazard lights do not work Everything else does Can't figure out why it just happened?

if its like the late 90's Monte Carlo's . The turn signals get their power through the hazard switch. It will most likely need replace.
Early to mid '00's Monte Carlo's and Impalas have hazard switches that are fairly prone to failure, some reports as high as 60% OE failure ratings. The turn signals are routed through the hazard switch, and when it goes, they both go. Aftermarket replacements can be found on eBay for under $30.

AnswerNothing needs to be replaced. The problem isn't exclusive to GM; it is all vehicles with a flasher switch mounted on top of the steering column. Over time, dust builds inside the switch and pretty soon, the ground gets gummed up. Spray WD40 or better yet NAPA's "Brake and Electric Motor Cleaner" down the flasher switch hole; work the switch up and down several times and everything will work fine again. If the flashers regain power but the turn-signals do not, spray some cleaner in the directional switch hole as well. It works like a charm!!!ANSWER
Actually the wiring is frayed a bit so if you wiggle it up and down or do what mechanics refer to as the "Beezer Boy Shake", you should be in business.

My research to date finds that the turn signals and hazard signals are controlled by a common relay. That relay is behind the hazard relay switch. My 2002 Audi A6 has the same symptoms you describe, and I will be removing the hazard switch to get at the relay for replacement. Good luck.

There are 2 flasher units under the dash. 1 for the turn signals and 1 for the hazard lights. They are round and you need to pull them straight out, then replace them. What I do is I figure out which one works the signals and I replace that one with a heavy duty one, the other can be a regular one. If the lights don't come on but the signals are working it can sometimes be the bulbs, other times it's a short like the other person said.
