Why you should treat the homeless better?

The obvious reason would be that they are people too, and not on the same level as the rats that might inhabit the neighboring boxes. The other reason would be that anyone could end up like that, if your stocks go horribly wrong (another Stock Market crash), or anything else that could land you in a back alley tommorrow. If you believe The Bible, which I do, Jesus told His followers that how you treat the poor is how you really think of and treat Christ Himself, as how you treat the homeless is a true reflection of who you are, not just who you think you are, or who you appear to be to other people. Homeless people are people just like you and me and the fact of the matter is they may have had lives at one time as others but ended up where they are through a variety of very unfortunate circumstances. I realize that some are on the streets due to rebellion and lack of respect for authority and/or have addiction problems but that does not mean they were not ever a respected part of society at one time.

If you were homeless, wouldn't you want help? These people have no homes, and they are thrown to the streets with nothing but the shards of clothing they have on their backs. Ignoring a homeless person is like ignoring your own children if they were starving in the cold streets. A better question is WHY WOULDN'T YOU HELP THEM?

Adding to Dan's answer, there is not necessarily a need to give homeless people money, there are dozens and dozens of ways to help them in other ways if you are not comfortable giving them money. Lack of water is a HUGE problem for the homeless, so water bottles are a great thing to give them.
