Prior to the year 2001, the US/Mexico border was not enforced. Mexicans and Americans could freely cross the border as they pleased because there was no border patrol.
When 9/11 occurred, the United States began to enforce their Mex/US border. All the Mexicans that had crossed the border when it wasn't being enforced automatically got illegal status.
Some immigrants came, and still come here to make a better life for themselves and their children. Anyone with a brain and heart would do anything it takes to give their children a better life. America needs to recognize that illegal immigrants are not a threat, and that Immigration laws need to be fixed.
Anyone that has gone through the immigration process, or the legalization process knows how painful, long, and nightmarish it is.
Assuming "we" is America, people come to America because it is a land of opportunity and so that the immigrants or decedents of the immigrants can have better lives (because of a better economy) (better economy = better jobs = more money in your pocket)

In the past couple years there has been a lot more news reports about illegal immigrants. So people will usually relate what they "learned" from the news about illegal immigrants and automatically label them.
An illegal immigrant to the US is, by definition, a person who has entered the country in a manner which violates US immigration law. That is the distinction between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. So yes, they get deported.
