In the early years of the LDS church, members of the church were shunned by most communities, seen as Heretics who followed a leader to claimed to have seen God the faith was often thought to be a Cult, there was a pattern of the people establishing a community and then being chased out, largely when the leadership of the church were the ones who owned or were officers in most of the companies in the community. Nauvoo was a prime example of that exact thing. However one of the worst cases was in Missouri where the people were chased repeatedly from their homes, losing everything they owned, forced to endure harsh winter at farwest and the law that was passed literally making it legal to murder a Mormon simply because they were Mormon.
"Mormonism" (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) was founded in America. Converts from other nations were encouraged to move to America if at all possible in order to help establish the Church in the United States. Other reasons were that communication over distances that great was costly and ineffective, so it was difficult for new converts to continue to participate in the faith. After about 1900, converts from other nations were encouraged to stay in their home nations rather than travel to America, so that they could begin to build up the Church abroad.
The headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) first moved from New York to Ohio because of a large number of converts in Ohio. It then moved to Missouri under the instruction of Joseph Smith and partly due to persecution. It was again moved to Illinois due to persecution in Missouri, and finally to Utah due to persecution in Illinois.
Most Church members moved with church headquarters so as to keep the church strong and centered.
The main reason it was hard for the Mormons to find a place to settle was because of the many persecutions. These persecutions cause the Mormons to be driven out of the land where they had settled. The people persecuting them did not care that it was the property of the Mormon Settlers. They just wanted them out. Another reason was that there were some higher authority people who authorized the people to drive them out, or to kill the Mormons. Those are some reasons why it was so hard for Mormons to find a place to settle.
Mormons were persecuted and kicked out of several places before finally finding a place to practice their religion in peace. Their homes were burned, their property was seized. Men were beaten, tarred and feathered, and sometimes killed. Local governments issued edicts requiring them to leave or be forced out.
Finally, they settled in Utah, where the only other residents were Native Americans. The Native Americans knew what it was like to be forced from their homes and were generally very welcoming to the Mormons.
The Mormons moved from New York to Ohio because there was such a large number of new converts in Ohio that it made more sense to move the main body of the church there. Persecution grew in Ohio due to the quick and high influx of Mormon settlers, so they began to move to Missouri. The persecution was even worse in Missouri, however, where the governor issued an extermination order - making it legal to kill a Mormon. So the Mormons moved to Illinois. In Illinois the persecution was also becoming violent to the point that the Prophet Joseph Smith was murdered, so the government asked the Mormons to leave in order to restore peace and order. The Mormons then moved to what is now Utah because Joseph Smith had prophesied that they would find peace in the Rocky Mountains.
The Mormons were able to settle successfuly at the Great Salt Lake due to their faith, strength, steadfast determination to settle together in a place where they would not be persecuted for their religious beliefs and where the lord wanted them to be.
Busy as bees.
It was hard, it was long and it often lead to death...

It doesnt come with one, and I am having a hard time finding a place where you can buy one.
It really depends on where your looking. If you look in the right place and have the right equiptment it wouldnt be that hard the hard part is finding the right place/equiptment. There is a place called Sovereign Hill about two hours away from where I live, its an old mining place and i suppose if you looked around there in the right place you could have some luck but then again all the gold has probobly been found by now.

People had to settle down when they discovered farming because they had to tend to the crops, and harvest them at the right times. They could not carry baskets of grains with them if they travelled. It was also not practical moving animals every day.
The difference in climate and in elevation.
