As the war was motivated by pro-slavery interests, northerners feared the acquired territory would be used by slavers (they did, especially on New Mexico and Texas). This eventually upset the balance of power between pro and anti slave interests and resulted in the American Civil War (1861-1865).

What reason did the Framers have for compromising on the issue of slavery?

Many people in both the North and the South were strongly opposed to slavery. For example, one Framer, Gouverneur Morris, denounced slavery as "The curse of Heaven on the states" where it existed. It is also interesting to note that nowhere in the Constitution did the writer use the words 'slave' or 'slavery'. Some people say that this is because the Framers were ashamed of slavery.

Did Mexico not want the Americans live in Texas?

No. Texas used to be part of Mexico, until America stole it from the Mexicans in a war that we Americans started for a tiny, stupid reason. After we won, we tried to settle Texas. The native Mexicans saw it correctly to be an invasion, and they didn't want Americans in their home.
