I'm not actually sure this answer is right. Just out of reading several articles I think I know what the answer is:

As the delegates made the Constitution, it was set it stone, "framed". Not framed in the sense that people think it committed a crime it didn't. More as you would frame a picture or a document. Thus, they were called Framers.
