The flu was first reported to most of the world in Spanish newspapers. This was because the "Spanish flu" first started in 1918 during WWI when many nations were censoring the news and didn't let this be reported. There was no censorship in the Spanish newspapers since they were neutral in the war. Therefore they reported the cases of influenza during the early part of the outbreak (something many other nations failed to do until much later in the pandemic). The name stuck. Because Spain was neutral in the war, both the entente and central powers placed the blame of the pandemic on Spain. In reality, it is believed that the pandemic originated in the United States and soldiers coming and going to war helped spread it all over the world.
Its called the spanish flu was practicly sread only by mexicans

It got the name Spanish flu because most of the world was fighting in World War 1. Spain, however, was neutral and spread the news.
The Spanish flu did not originate in Spain or Mexico. It is unknown where the Spanish flu originated from but Scientists think that it originated in Kansas.

However, not everyone who became infected with the Spanish Flu died of it, and there were millions of people who escaped being infected in the first place.
