An answer from a Catholic member of our community:
The teachings of the Catholic Church are nothing other than the teaching of Our Blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is God, who established "His" Church, and guaranteed "His" Church and send the Holy Spirit to guide "His" Church until the end of the world. The teachings of Martin Luther are those of a man who made up his own teachings fifteen centuries later to suit himself, edited The Bible to suit himself. Now why would you pose a question that assumes that a man's teachings are "better" than God's teachings? The only way to answer that question in a postive manner is to assume that Martin Luther corrected the Catholic Church's teaching and that Jesus Christ obviously could not follow through on His promise to preserve the Church from error.
Roman Catholic AnswerLuther's teachings did NOT cause a split in the Catholic Church. Luther's teachings tore many people away from the Church due to the rulers who wanted to be free of constraints they were under in the Catholic Church. When a prince apostatised from the faith, his people better go with him! Luther's teachings did spark the counter-Reformation which caused a flowering of religious vocations, new religious orders, and great fervor in the Catholic people.

You would be better asking what secular movement did not criticize the Catholic Church, the list would be a lot shorter.
Because the Catholic Church has a history of Corruption, and I guess it's part of that "Oh my religion is better"
The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ. The Lutheran Church was founded by Martin Luther, a mere man. The Catholics feel they have kept the teachings and traditions passed down to us intact while Luther picked and chose what his church would follow, tossing out those articles of faith he had a personal disagreement with.
Well, "catholic" spelled with a lower-case "c", is a word meaning, "all-inclusive". It is not necessarily a religious word, at all. Roman Catholic is a Christian religion, and the word, "Catholic" is a religious word meaning, "all-inclusive" or "available to all". There are 2 Catholic churches. The church in Roman-held areas was a rival to the church in areas of what is now Turkey. The head of that church was in Byzantium. Eventually, the 2 church group broke apart, one being called the Roman Catholic church, and the other being called the Byzantine Catholic church. The Byzantine Catholic church is today better know as the Greek Orthodox church and Russian Orthodox church. Thus church follows the old, old practices that the Roman Catholic church has abandoned or altered over the years.
It was changed to match the original Latin better
Henry VIII never spit form the Church. He reformed the church, making it suit him better. He allowed Protestant beliefs to spread through England because he appointed himself head of the church. He was born a Catholic and died a Catholic. Hope his helped.
Opinion: The Catholic Church is a Christian organization - last study suggests there are about 41,000 worldwide 'christian' organizations in the world today. What is necessary for each of you to do is to see where you are in agreement and disagreement over biblical teachings and the government of the organization. Then each of you must come to an agreement whether your religious views will have an impact on your relationship and then decide how to proceed. As noted above, being 'christian' can mean many differing things. Fundamentalist or evangelicals would not conform to Catholic teachings just as those who are Catholic believe they are the 'mother' Church which has had many 'wayward' daughters leave from it over the centuries. Mixed relationships face many trials and errors so it is better to decide if/how you will proceed.
Yes. You are allowed to party and get drunk at a church. All the better for God to watch you.
Reading through Martin Luther's Ninty-five Theses, one would have to say that the Catholic Church did not include any of his ideas in their reforms other than the one that showed the necessity of better education of the clergy - for obvious reasons. Of Luther's 95 Theses, some of them were already Catholic dogma, that apparently the hapless Luther did not know (and steadfastly refused to know) while others were clearly heretical or nonsensical. Bottom line? None, other than requiring better education of anyone ordained to the priesthood.
