When this was happening on my 1999 3.8 Liter Intrigue, I suspected the starter switch, but when I took it in to have it looked at, all it was, was a worn out Battery. They replaced the Battery and the problem went away.

Something is cooling down. As things cool, they shrink. As parts heat up they expand. So,for example, you have a weak connection in your starter, when it expands the connection is lost. When the car cools down, the connection is re-established.

I would start with the starter if the car isn't turning over.

bad battery or loose battery cable

Why hot diesel car engine does not start if it is restarted?

If you try immediately after it has turned off it may be vapor locked. The diesel will become gaseus and will be in the form of vapor which will not ignite correctly. It should, of course start immediately. Just let it set for several minutes then try again.

Alero 2002 security system will not let you start the car with out leaving key on for 10 minutes then you turn the key off then it will start?

I have come across this exact problem myself and YES, when the car does not initially start and the engine keeps cranking - STOP attempting to turn the engine (ignition) on. One MUST turn the key to the on or start position furthest to the point where the key springs back and allow the SECURITY light to blink until it stops blinking. This usually takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes and possibly even longer. Regardless of how long it actually takes before the SECURITY light to stop flashing, one MUST wait that time out before he/she can switch the key to the OFF position then once again try to attempt the start of the engine. Good luck to all those with this issue. IF YOUR BATTERY DIES This worked for me too. My battery went dead and after a boost and several other things the car would still not start. I then tried the above and it started right away. I believe with the PASSLOCK II TM system the resistance of the key must be read before the car will start. Thanks for the advice DD

Why will a car start and run for a few minutes then loses power to the engine like you stopped giving it gas dies and will not start again after about 10 minutes you can start the car again?

i can start the car, and it runs for a few meters, dies out like im giving it no gas. then it will not restart. after sitting about 10 minutes or so, it will start again and is drivable for a few more meters, then dies again to have the whole process rinse and repeat itself . it also makes a loud rattling noise like the valves are rattleing and then loses all horsepower then dies. once its started back up it sounds like the lifters are tapping, and just gets louder until the car dies again. it will not idle on its own.

Why is it that when i drive my car for a half hour when i stop and go to start my car stalls then i try it again and it stalls then after bout 10-15 minutes of waiting it goes?

It cold be either a plugged fuel filter or an electronic ignition component that is failing from heat stress.

Why would a car start and run then out of no where stop running and wont start but after awhile start like nothing is wrong?

Could be that the coil (or coil packs) is breaking down and fails when it gets hot and then works again when it has cooled slightly after a few minutes. A good garage would check this easily and quickly especially a main dealer for the car.
