From reverse band to servo to solenoid...to a whole transmission... we have heard several points of view for you to consider.
As many people discover, diagnosing a vehicle problem, especially sight-unseen, is difficult. But these leads should help you feel more aware of potential issues when you talk it over with your repairman. If you are doing the job yourself, take it one step at a time. Check the first suggestion, and work your way through the list. Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll need to spend some money first to get it diagnosed, plus some to do the repair(s). Hopefully, you won't need a new transmission.
More than likely the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's more than likely the problem!

Doesn't even have to be 'more than likely'. Truth be told, you're facing a bunch of factors to cause it to go in reverse not forward..
But you also gotta check certain things by test driving it..
I'm having the same issue with my 99 Mustang, didn't get no warning, downloaded new tunes into the car took it for a test drive, worked fine, shifting amazing, father took it for a test drive, worked fine, until he turned on the street..
Could me one of many things, your Transmission Wiring Harness, a sensor, low fluids, shifter, and of course your transmission going.
truck will only go forward not in reverse does this mean the transmission is gone
car will jerk forward and then go in reverse
no it will cause u 2 go > slowly >=forward
Most likely your transmission needs replaced.
The rear of the car will always go in the direction that you turned the wheel if you are in reverse. It's just like driving forward. If you want to go forward and right, turn the wheel to the right. If you are in reverse and want the rear of the car to move to the right, then turn the wheel to the right. To answer your question directly, the rear of the car will go to the right.
Sounds like it is not really in reverse-check trans to see what gear it's really in.
Shift linkages not put in the correct spots.
If you have an automatic transmission, it probably has a forward clutch/band problem.
Your arctic cat 580 will go in reverse and not forward because the reverse linkage is okay while the forward linkage is not.
When a Mercedes C280 will not move in forward or reverse it is an indication that the transmission is going out or has already gone out in the car. This is true of all cars, not just a Mercedes.
Do you mean the shifter or car physically does not move? BClear.
What would cause the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder not to go in forward or reverse?
