Hopefully it is just low on Transmission Fluid. Check the transmission dipstick. If the level is alright, then the transmission has most likely died.

If it is a manual transmission and you can shift it into gear with the engine running, the clutch is worn out. It may simply have worn to the point that it no longer grabs or may have come apart all at once. If there happens to be an oil leak at the back of the engine the clutch disc can become saturated which will cause it to detach from the backer plate.

How do you down shift gears in a stick shift?

The gear stick has a diagram of where to move the stick to engage a certain gear. For example, if Gear 1 is in the top left corner, you must move the stick to the fair left, then forwards to engage first gear. Oh, and you have to push down the clutch each time you change gear.

What is a bicycle gear shift?

There has to be a gear cluster attached to the rear wheel , this is connected to a lever on the handle bars, allowing you to move the chain to each of these gears to give different speeds. Usually between 3-6 gears on this.

How do you know if your clutch is broken?

If your stick shift will not move or if it will move but the car is not shifting gears, it is broken. If it feels very loose and is not catching on any gear then it is broken.

What is the effect of gear change to speed?

we should start a vehicle with neutral gear(0th gear). after starting shift to 1st gear so that to move the vehicle. when the vehicle is in 1st gear, it gets the power to start moving from the rest state. then , after attaining sufficient speed, change to 2nd, then 3rd, and so on. 1st gear gives more power, but less speed and top gears gives more speed, but lesser power. If we shift to top gears without attaining sufficient speed, engine starts knocking and the vehicle will be off within no time.

How do you go from any gear back to neutral?

First you have to press the clutch all the way to the floor, then move the gear shifter whether it is on the collar or stick shift) to the middle of all the gears, then the vehicle will be in neutral.

When you shift on your motorcycle sometimes the gears get stuck and you have to disengage the clutch alittle for the gear to snap into place usually happens around first gear is this the transmission?

This is normal in a sequential transmission motorcycles use. The transmission needs a source of power to move the gears in place, if you shift more than one or two gears down, you will have to disengage the clutch to continue shifting down. You should plan your stops accordingly and shift down while stopping so that you can shift to first just about when you are rolling to a stop.

What could be wrong with a 1993 dodge ram 250 van if it will not move when transmission is applied?

The first and cheapest thing that comes to mind: is the shift cable still intact? There is a cable between the gear selector in the cab and the gear lever on the transmission. Crawl under the car, put someone inside to work the gears when you tell them to, find the gear lever, and have your friend move the gear selector. If the gear lever on the transmission does not move, the cable is broken.
