IF it has a vacume actuator on the axle-maybe no Vac or 12 Volts IF IT has Locking HUBS they Freeze up from not being used---- ? sometimes ? U can go from Drive to Reverse (a few times) to free up the locking gears inside the HUBS.
You need to learn how to ask an intelligent question, we have no clue why it wont enguage. Is it running? Did you take the transfer case out? If you dont know enough to give far more specific details and haven't even attempted your own diagnosis, then just take it in and stop posting worthless questions.
I have a similar problem. When I turn my knob over to a4wd it engages but when I try to turn to 4 hi or lo it stays on a4wd. Now my friend recommend To skip the a4wd from neutral and flip knob all the way to 4hi but when I do this the light doesn't come on at all. There is also a 4x4 light but that has never come on since buying. What could cause the issue? thanks.
Check the fuses. After that, check the plug-ins down below on the transfer case.
If you have disconnected the battery pull your 4x4 fuses 1 under the dash 2 under the hood and put them back in. That fixed mine
Vacuum hose disabled.
try putting vehicle in neutral, then unlock hubs.then put vehicle out of 4 wheel drive
thanks how many holding blots and where bad bendix (starter drive) if the spring in the starter bendix is weak or broken it will not engage the flywheel; but the starter will turn normally. bad thing is ,you have to pull the starter..good luck..
Provided the starter drive is not spun, one of the following areas is probably at fault. A weak battery A poor, or loose connection (at battery, or solenoid / starter). Dirty or rusted starter drive splines. Possibly, but not probable, a faulty starter.
If they are only noisy and are causing ABS problems you can probably drive on them for a bit. Check them often for looseness though as that becomes a safety issue.
the front end load bearing or other bearing in the gearbox will be stuffed. when you engage the clutch the gearbox doesnt have any drive thru it so stops turning and then you noise stops.
rear wheel drive ( and if equipped 4x4 capable )
In most cases drive with overdrive especially if maintaining over 45 mph. Take out of overdrive if on slippery pavement
As far as I know , you inflate the tire(s) to the correct pressure and then drive the vehicle
how much for a new transmission?

There is a switch on both drivers side door and passenger door, it is going to be by the door latch you will have to remove the door cover so you can get to it. easy fix would be to spray down with wd-40 or you can by the part for about 15.00 dlls.
No. You should not drive in overdrive all the time.
Depends on how you drive it and what kind of shape it's in. My '97 5.4 with 208,000 miles averages around 12-14. I've gotten 17 on a 600 mile trip at 70 mph.
