The clutch is shot or in need of an adjustment.
Worn or improperly installed clutch would be my first suspect.
Not enough information. Will the car shift gears with the engine off? Is the gear shifter stuck in one particular gear?
If it won't crank, which is probably what you really have going on, it means your battery went bad while you were driving.
Your '01 Lincoln Town car might not shift gears because it is low on transmission fluid or because the transmission is damaged.
If your car/truck is having problems shifting, it may be your transmition. You may want to get that checked out.
because its like a plane when you go on cruise control it controls the speed and the gears but you have to control the way it goes it wont steer its if you let go of the steering wheel you will crash and you dont want to cause an accident
