Unless you tell us make and year of vehicle, we have no idea.
yes, the purpose of the relay is to signal the pump to turn on and off, if its not working at all the fuel pump will not turn on.
suspect bad fuel filter first, then fuel pump, alternator or battery, ignition module...
Reset it in the trunk to turn on or unplug it but your fuel pump wont work
check your relay for the cooling fan and fuelpump
Depends on the model. 1500 fuel pump or ignistion switch. If it wont start at all expect the fuel pump. If it is intermittant expect the switch.
The ignition and fuel pump run off the same power Circe so I would look to fuses and relays first. But if there is no spark the fuel pump on most wont turn on past the prime cycle.
I have the exact same problem. After replacing the fuel pump everything was fine. Now the fuel pump does not always kick on and you have to turn the ignition on and off until you hear the fuel pump kick in. Went to start this morning and fuel pump did not kick in, still wont. So I checked the relays, all good. Now the fuel pump kicks on but it still wont start. Did the computer on this thing die?
Turn the key on,DO NOT try to start wait 3 seconds are until you hear the pump quite then turn the key off and wait 1 minute then turn key back on again until you hear the pump quit again. Repeat these steps about 4 times. Then start the engine. If you can't here the fuel pump running then the fuel pump may have went out.
If it is the fuel pump, you can take the fuel line off, place a cup or jar at the end of the line. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn off. if there is no fuel at all, there is a big possibility that it is the fuel pump. But it could be a fuse, fuseable link, or broken wire... If there is fuel in the cup or jar you will need a fuel pressure check. At this point if you dont have the tool, You more than likely will wont to have a Mechanic that knows how finish checking. If the pressure is not strong enough, it is the fuel pump.
In order of cost check: Fuse Fuel pump relay Fuel pump
I don't think they have fuel pump shut off switch. What model?
I dont understand, If you can hear it turn on then it must have been off to begin with. The fuel pump will run as long as the key is on, it has to for the engine to operate.
