I'd check things like your battery connections, spark plug wires, and your distributor if you've got one. It's likely something electrical.
isn't the Toyota tacoma the truck that should have been turned into Toyota for a check? this happened to my husband, and there was a recall on the trucks so we returned the truck about 5 years after having it for a check for 12 grand. so we bought a Nissan SUV with the money. i don't know if this helps but this is what i thought.

Check igntino system, take a spray bottle of water spray dis. cap then wires with vehicle running see if it starts to misfire. if so replace fault parts.
