Why would a Jeep Cherokee have a high pitched whining sound while driving but stops when you push on the brakes?

I agree. Ive just gotten this issue in my 94 cherokee-- the most reliable car ive owned. While i havent located it, I can agree with this post, because that is the vicinity it seems to occur from. The 'whir' dampens once i accelerate, and Iwasglad to see some sort of confirmation it was the brake booster.
What is the cost to fix this? Is it worth it? Or can I do a DIY tightening of something, or replace some tubing?
