I know the ost common of the reasons is that the switchs get dirty. with the car off and the key out.. try turning the knob about 20 or 30 times back and forth, then try putting it in 4wd again. If that still doesnt work, it could mean that one of your half shafts in the front are broken or that the gears are fried. someone from trailvoy also told me that there is a shiftfork that sometimes gets dirty and has to be sprayed down. you might want to look into that.
