Your alternator did it come with a pulley installed ? Or did you have to switch the pulley from the old unit ? Is it the same alternator as the old unit? ( size , number , identifcation markings ) if not this can be your problem .
On some cars, the idler pulley {usually on the belt tensioner) can squeal. If you squirt some WD-40 or similar lubricant on the front of the bearing (engine off), and the noise goes away, it is probably the bearings in the idler pulley. If this is the case, replace the idler pulley, because the noise will come back after the lubricant gets slung out of the bearing.
Check the belt on your alternator. If it is not tight enough it will squeal on a Rodeo. Be sure to get it checked soon or your belt could fall off or burn up your alternator and then you are stuck!!
If bearings go bad they will "squeal"
The alternator belt on a 1993 Nissan 300ZX will typically squeal if it has excessive wear or it has become lose. This provides a good opportunity to replace the belt before it complete fails.
A loose belt. Most likely the alternator belt, if it doesn't squeal when you make a sharp turn.
The belt could be damp, loose or slipping.
Yes it can but squealing normally indicates the belt is worn out.
Very often it is not the alternator, but the belt that squeals. This can be checked by rubbing a little soap on the belt, if the squeal goes away, you know it's the belt. The belt may squeal for a number of reasons: the belt is new, the belt is old, the belt tension is too tight or loose, the belt is cold (the squeal goes away on it's own when it warms up). Some belts just squeal for no discernable reason, but there are 'belt dressing' sprays available for sale that sometimes help. Always check the belt before spending a bunch of money on a new alternator that may not be needed.
You could check all drive pulleys are in line using a straight edge or a taut piece of string. Any misalignment will cause premature wear. Maybe you have a spacer missing on one of the pulleys, or on the alternator assembly.
If you are referring to the blower motor squealing, then I would suspect the blower motor bearings have failed.
I actually was suprised my grand prix was squealing and it was the alternator. I got it replaced and it has stopped.
Your alternator is bad.
That usually means that the belt is slipping on the alternator pulley. You should be able to check the belt tension and if there is a tensioner, you may need to replace the spring. Otherwise, just tighten the belt.
