Why will the battery not run out if the head lights are on when the car is on a long journey at night?

Because even though the electronics in the car run off the battery the alternator is constantly putting a charge back in the battery as long as the engine is running.

How do you test voltage regulator on motorcycle?

Check the battery voltage, bike not running. Start the bike (crank the rpm's up a little), voltage should be a couple of volts more than battery voltage. Check both voltage (running and not running) at battery terminals. Charge voltage isn't all though, if it doesn't stop charging when it should it will boil the battery dry. If you are having this symptom, it's for sure the regulator

What is the importance of alternator?

An alternator is the part of an automobile that generates the power to run the radio, headlights, speakers, and air conditioning as well as any other electronic component in the car while the engine is running. This is different from when the engine is not running. When the engine is not running, the 12 Volt car battery operates these electronics. Unfortunately, every battery will die eventually, so the alternator also recharges the battery while the engine is running. This is a slow process, though. But unless the battery is charged, the engine usually can't ever be started.

Why might a car not start after installing a new battery?

AnswerWithout buying expensive test equipment, you can test it by replacing the questionable part with a known good part.Answerdid you have the new batt.tested where you bought it?you can get a bad batt.off the shelf i know. starter draging.just went though this myselfEven though its a new battery, it may be the alternator!! the easiest way to check it is to get it started when running, take the negative cable or black cable off of your battery if it stays running your alternator is fine if it dies the alternator is bad!! the alternator helps keep the battery charged and going!!

Why does the battery light come on while driving even though the alternator is charging the battery?

The alternator may not be charging it enough. With the engine running at an idle check the voltage at the battery with a DC digital voltmeter. It should read from 13.5 to 15.5 Volts. Anymore, or any less, and the alternator is suspect. You might also have a defective battery.
