I have a 97 626 2.0l auto, my transmission was the first to fail, OD blinked for 30,000 miles and i had to replace. But because i took too long to replace, my engine followed suit, so i replaced that too.

CAUTION! Please replace after max 20,000 miles use of a slipping tranny. Now to answer your qs, try providing more air into ur engine and tranny, 1st replace airfilter, change oil and drive slow for a little while. If no change, continue to increase air by switching to custom air intake and find a good mechanic who will position your tranny inline with the engine, PROPERLY. Note: Tanny flash and frequent oil changes clean out the system. CD4E transmission by Ford is difficult, but Mazda has the best engines. WHAT A TRADE-OFF. MAZDA HAS ISSUED A SB FOR THIS PROBLEM I DONT REMEMBER THE SERVICE BULLITON #. IT CALLS FOR OIL COOLER FOR TRANNY AND IMPROVED RADIATOR.INSTALLING THESE PARTS WILL PREVENT TRANNY FLUID FROM OVER HEATING AND TRIGGRING OD LIGHT. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET INFO ABOUT SB FROM ANY MAZDA DEALER NEAR YOU.

When is overdrive on a transmission most economical?

highway driving

Should he overdrive light in a Jeep Wrangler X be on or off most of the time?

Under normal conditions when driving at highway speed should allow the transmission to shift into overdrive.. Assuming automatic, if the O/D indicator is on when accelerating from a stop, and in most cases during stop and go driving (when transmission has not settled into high gear, or under heavy load), it should not be on. This should apply to literally any vehicle with automatic & overdrive. If it is on when an automatic transmission has not reached high gear, it would be a symptom of an electrical or sensor switch malfunction.

What automatic transmission should be used in a 1986 Monte Carlo with a 350 engine?

Most people with this motor go with a th350, th700r4, or a th200r4. The th350 does not have an overdrive gear, so if your driving on the highway, your gas milage will suffer.

On a 1994 Mazda 626 How do get the button on the shifter to switch back over to automatic from overdrive it is stuck in overdrive and when you push the button it won't switch back?

The button does not switch from Overdrive to Automatic. The button just turns the overdrive off. Overdrive is not a separate drive system as your question implies. Normally you leave the car in overdrive mode. That way the transmission shifts into overdrive at highway speeds, thus saving fuel. If you are saying the transmission is stuck in overdrive and it will not disengage then seek out a A/T professional.

Why would the overdrive off light not go out driving on the highway at 3000 rpm?

What are the uses of overdrive and when should it be used?

Overdrive is for highway driving, which is great for gas mileage. Also, not to use overdrive when going up or down hills because it makes your transmission work harder. That's what I was told anyways.

What is overdrive for in your car?

Overdrive is almost like another gear for your transmission. Say you have a four-speed w/ overdrive automatic transmission in your car. Once you get up into fourth gear, and if you're not trying to accelerate hard, the trans will kick into overdrive. It drops the engine's RPM's and saves gas. When you are traveling on the highway it help to conserve fuel.

Why does your 94 silverado with a 96 silverado transmission slip out of overdrive when you are on the highway?

If your 94 Silverado with a 96 Silverado transmission slips out of overdrive when you are on the highway, the gears may have seized up. You should also check the transmission fluid level.

Would a 3 speed automatic transmission with no overdrive in a 1.8L 4 cylinder Chevy Prizm lead to more wear and tear on the car when driving at highway speeds?

Unless the 3rd speed is already an overdrive, yes. What matters is the highest gear keeps your engine RPM around 2500 rpm at around 70 mph.
