Are you sure it's the timing belt you're speaking of? I don't think that is possible. It is probably one of the serpentine belts. If you can see the belt you're speaking of, it is not the timing belt. The timing belt is hidden behind a plastic housing on the passenger side of the engine. If it is in fact a serpentine belt, then you should only have to adjust the tension of the belt. This should be relatively simple. Consult a repair manual such as Haynes or Chilton so that you make sure you're turning the right bolt. Hope this helps. timing belts dont sqeal. if the timing belt slips then you are in trouble, its one of your drive belts that are sqealing. tighten them, if that doesnt work, replace them, you have either one or two, usually there are 2, but you may only need one fixed. If the squeal happens after the engine is shut down, you need to replace the crankcase breather filter, a $15 dealership part. It is on top of the valve cover on the drivers side. You can see it in this pic to the right of the red arrow, http://tinyurl.com/eqojf. This seems to be a common problem, but no one knows how to fix it and usually thinks it is something else
A worn belt will cause a squealing noise. The squealing noise is caused when the belt slips. Tightening the belt will temporarily fix the problem.
No! Something is wrong.
It depends on the noise. If it is a squealing noise it is probably a loose belt and needs to be replaced. Check the back of the belt if it is "glazed" meaning slippery and shiny then replace the belt.
Its almost sounds like a dolphin noise.
It is obvious that whomever replaced the belt did something wrong. Take the car back to the person who replaced the belt.
unless there is noise coming from the timing chain, you should never need to replace it.
A Geo Metro is a front wheel drive vehicle. When a squealing noise occurs when the wheel is turning, it can be an indication of damage to the CV joints.
It's going to be your radiator fan clutch. Mine was squealing for a while until finally it turned into clanging. It was pretty bad. I'm in the process now of replacing mine. That should be your next step.
It should be replaced when it begins making a noticeable noise.
The noise a pig makes when it is angry or hurt.
Your brake pads may need to be replaced, or your rotors may be "Pitted" and may need to be "Turned"
chain. if you hear a clattering noise the timing chain and timing chain tensioner need to be replaced they are usually sold as a kit
