If your car is making a grinding sound when changing gear the problem depends on whether or not your car has an automatic transmission.
If your car has a manual transmission:
1. You may not be pressing the clutch down far enough when you change gears or there may be a problem with the clutch linkage.
2. The springs in the transmission separating the clutch plates may be weakening.
3. There may be another problem in the shifting mechanism.
If it does not go away if you press a little harder on the clutch, have a mechanic look at it.
If your car has an automatic transmission take it to the shop immediately and hope it does not break down on the way.
main shaft bearing
Its more than likely the throwout bearing in the clutch assembly. Or could be a wheel bearing or cv joint. It would help if i knew what make and model the vehicle is.
you may not be pushing the clutch all the way in or the cluch may need to be adjusted
I assume you are referring to a manual transmission. Grinding while changing gears is an indication of a synchronizer going bad. Until you get it fixed, try double clutching when shifting.
Cause you don't know how to drive
needs new clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing
no a grinding problem is usually in side the trans and what is grinding are the gears...there are brass bushing called sincros that help transfer from gear to gear...since the "sincros" are brass they wear and when they wear there isn't the smooth transaction from gear to gear...sincros are really cheap but to have them installed gets pricey because of the labor time..
The noise is the teeth on the flywheel grinding on the teeth of the starter. Check to see if the starter is loose, this is the most common cause of that noise.
It will sound like a gear moving, there might be a clunking sound. It is perfectly normal.
take tranny apart and replace 5th gear syncro
The grinding noise can be an indication of a bad gear in the transmission. The grinding noise can also indicate a problem with the clutch.
It is the sound of the gears grinding against each other. Because it is at a high speed, it sounds like a rattling instead of a grinding.
