1 salad is not enough to sustain you so that you can actually run the 3 miles. You will end up hurting your body more than helping. What you should do is eat your usual foods, just cut the portions in half. Add a salad to lunch and dinner - eat it first, then eat the meal so you end up eating less. Cut your fast food or TV dinners, processed foods and fast foods are not healthy. Just make a few little changes and you will find you can actually stick to your new way of life (don't call it a diet, you aren't refusing yourself anything, just adding better foods and eating less). Run those 3 miles in the morning right after you take your vitamins with a small glass of water. Then eat breakfast and go about your day. Your body benefits most from morning exercise and your vitamins absorb best when you are active. You get a double benefit right there. Be sure your vitamins are made from whole foods, don't buy off the shelf. Buy from an MLM company because they are required to never be more than 1-2% off in their ingredients (while store bought vitamins, including GNC can be as much as 40% off). Melaleuca, Shaklee and Nikken all carry a great line of vitamins. Look for the vitamin which has at least 100% Biotin (great for weight loss).

I was 5' 8" and 165 lbs and lost 30 lbs by cutting my calories, running three times a week (for 35 to 55 minutes) and doing strength exercises for one hour twice a week. I had tried dieting before, but I was successful this time because a nutritionist opened my eyes. She said it is all about the numbers. Food is building blocks - micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and macronutrients (fat, carbs and protein). We need all the above, but our total calorie intake has to be consistently less than what we burn in order to lose weight. One mile a day is not very far, but if results in the number of calories you burn being more than what your "normal" calorie intake is, then it would result in weight loss. If the number of calories in is less than the number of calories out, consistently over time, then you will lose weight.

Only if you stick to a healthy diet that promotes balanced nutrition. If you run a mile every day but eat junk food as the majority of your diet, then probably not...

On top of that, one mile is too short to use up any useful amount of calories, you need to be looking at 45-60 minutes for that.

'course, anything is better than nothing, but you do need to get up to 45-60 minutes before the losses during running become important.

Probably, just combine your workout with a healthy diet and keep track of your calorie intake.

How much weight can a person lose in a half mile walk?

Walking a half mile is a great "little boost," but you're not going to lose any weight. Your weight, height, gender, exercise level and caloric intake are huge factors. If you walk a half mile to Dairy Queen...I mean, come on...no weight loss. If you factor in a half a mile a day with proper diet and (additional exercise) you will lose weight....slowly. Good luck.

My mom weighed like a lil over 2 hundred pounds, after she had 3 kids. But she never decided she was going to lose weight until a few months ago. All she did was run/jog/power walk a mile or 2 everyday and she ate what she wanted, just less of it, and drunk only water..You can drink flavored water to. And she lost 30 pounds in like 3 months.

How long would you have to go on a run for to loose 3 stone?

3 "stone" is 42 pounds. There's no way for you to run continuously to the point where you've lost 42 pounds. It would kill you first. If you're trying to lose weight, then switch to a low-carbohydrate diet and exercise sensibly. Try to cut back on bread, pasta and other starches. Eat normally, but stop eating BEFORE you are full. Start with simple exercises and stretches, then walk one mile. If you're winded at that point, then do this every day for a week or two. Then increase to 1.5 miles per day, until it's easy to do. Then try jogging for a mile, and build up a little each week. With a moderate diet and exercise program, You should be able to lose a couple of pounds per week, so you should expect to take 3-4 months to lose 3 stone in weight.
