Assuming you are going back to the seventies, Buick, Cadillac and Chevy had the same bolt pattern. Then Pontiac and Olds had there bolt pattern. Breifly GM did supply hydramatic transmissions with both bolt patterns. So, if your transmission has more than eight holes ( two for the dowel pins) on the bell housing it should fit ether.

Chevrolet and Buick match. Unless you have a dual bolt pattern transmission (GM did make them) the Pontiac engine won't bolt up to the the Chevrolet transmission.
