The three things that will help you're knocking problem are: 1. Retard the timing. 2. Use higher octane fuel 3. Lower the combustion temp by adding an EGR valve, or making sure the one you have works. I'd assume the EGR valve is not something that you want to do. I wouldn't. Obviously, "4" would be swap out the heads to ones with a bigger combustion chamber thus reducing the compression. A lean mixture will give you a "lean misfire".

What is the effect of air fuel ratio on detonation in internal combustion engine?

A leaner fuel mixture burns hotter than a rich mixture. so a leaner mixture will be more prone to detonation than a richer mixture.

What change occurs in the fuel air mixture when carburetor heat is applied?

It get's richer, The fuel/air mixture becomes richer..

How does a choke work?

By cutting off part of the supply of air. This will cause the fuel/air mixture to be very rich. A cold engine needs a much richer mix than a warm engine. Once the engine warms up the choke opens up and the fuel/air mixture is restored to the optimum mix.

Why is it that when you turn the car off its still running?

Could be that your idle speed is too high, or engine is running too hot causing the PMC to deliver a richer mixture,

What causes Snow thrower engine to stop when engaging auger?

Check the fuel and air filters. If they are clean, open the carburetor needle valve 1/8 turn for a slightly richer mixture to handle the extra load on the engine when the auger is engaged.

Do you need to adjust a carburetor for high elevation?

Yes, the hire you go the less air, your engine will run richer and richer.

Idle fuel mixture setting for 68 250 Chevy?

the best way to set the idle mixture screw is with a gas analyzer. setting the mixture to 14:1. if you dont have one use a vacuum gage and set for the highest vacuum. If you dont have one of them then turn the screw in til the engine starts to stumble. then turn the screw out til the engine starts to stumble. turn the screw back in half the distance. that will be your best setting. Any leaner and the engine wont start, any richer and the engine will flood.

Why motorcycles need choke?

For cold starts a choke allows a richer fuel mixture until the engine warms to operating temperature. A Choke is only necessary on motorcycles with a carburetor. Fuel injected bikes adjust their fuel mixture automatically by a local ECU so no manual choke is needed.

What is the effect of a defective oxygen sensor?

Improper air/fuel mixture which results in poor fuel economy. The compute and engine will default to a richer fuel mixture to protect the engine. This will also result in carbon build up in the oil and engine which can lead to valve train issues and dirty fuel injectors. Over the long term it will also cause premature failure of the catalytic converter (expensive) since it has to try and deal with all the extra fuel being fed into the engine(rich mixture). You will get and indcation of a engine light on the dash in most vehicle as well and it will not go away. The engine will run like crap and perform poorly.

Why does car have to warm up to run?

There are a lot of things going on inside your engine and before it warms up it isn't producing reliable horsepower. If your car won't run until it warms up it means that the fuel air mixture is not rich enough. A colder engine requires a richer mixture. Older cars did it with a choke on the carb. Newer cars do it by the computer adjusting the fuel/air mixture and engine timing to until it watms up. If your car is mid 1990's or later you probably have a problem with a sensor.
