The 1998 Chevy Silverado pickup truck shift solenoid can be found on the left-hand side of the engine. The shift solenoid will be near the center of the transmission.
That transmission is COMPUTER CONTROLLED and does NOT have a modulator valve. If you are having transmission problems then you need to have the transmission scanned with an OBDII engine scanner to see what is going on.

NO... The only ones that will work is a 1996 or 1997 4L60E transmission if it is a 1/2 ton. The 3/4 tons used the 4L80E in them.
You will have to remove the pan off of the bottom of the transmission. Be sure to have a drain pan handy. When you take the pan off you will see the filter bolted to the valve body.
