Moulds are funghi. Funghi are not plants but are an type of organism in their own right. Unlike plants they do not photosynthesise, but respire, like us humans do.

This means they get their energy from the organic matter that surrounds them (they release enzymes and then absorb sugar etc- kind of like eating)

THEREFORE, the rate of growth has nothing to do with light levels.
