With a Vinyl Liner you should not empty it OR take it down. It's very hard to get the liner back in place if you remove it. Vinyl shrinks as it ages so you also need the weight of the water to hold it in place. Movement of the liner could also cause older vinyl to crack. Think of an older cars dashboard!

To winterize the pool you should lower the water just below the skimmer, plug the return line, drain the skimmer, pump, filter and Plumbing and cover the pool with a winter cover.

Can you drain a pool during the winter months to replace the vinyl liner in the spring without damaging the pool shell in Mississippi?

If your pool is above ground it does not matter, But if your pool is in ground and you drain it it will act like a boat and float if the water table rises.

Why should you disassemble an above ground pool during winter?

Not all above ground pools have to be disassembled during winter, although it is a good idea to drain them. Water expands when it freezes, and if the water is trapped in a closed container or in a crack, the expansion can break the container or the material surrounding it. Pipes often break, when water inside them freezes.

What do you do if your above ground pool is very full and ice is coming close to the edge?

You're supposed to drain your pool for the winter so that a layer of ice doesn't form, expand, and crack the sides of the pool.

Do you have to open a in ground pool every year?

No , above ground pools are different in that you can drain them , the reason you cannot drain an in ground pool is because the pool is built to have water pressure , and it is very stressful on the walls , I hope this answered your question :) .

Why does the ground have to be level for above ground pools?

So that the water doesn't drain out of the pool and so the pool doesn't fall over. I agree with the answer above but I have a more detailed answer. In a round above ground pool the water puts even pressure on the pool walls, and if the ground is not level one side will get more pressure. The imbalance will cause the pool to collapse under the strain.

You want the drain pipe for a kitchen sink at least 18" above the floor. You do not want it any closer or it might be kicked, or damaged during building or installing the faucet pieces.
