Look for a broken linkage going from the wiper motor to the wiper arms. Also check to see if the nuts holding the wiper arms are loose, that is one of the most common problems, but usually only affects one wiper arm at a time.

PUSH THE WIPER ASSEMBLY DOWN AS FAR AS IT GOES....CHECK THE NUT, IT WILL PROBABLY BE LOOSE. TIGHTEN IT DOWN, FLIP THE CAP BACK DOWN AND TRY IT...IT SHOULD WORK...

First: is it the wipers, wiper arms or motor that is at fault? Most times it is the ball joint piece that comes off, disabling the wipers, and the motor is still good. This reauires replacement of the wiper arm mechanism that has the "socket" on the end, a plastic part. If it is the motor, read on... The motor is located on the passenger side, mounted on the firewall. It "connects" to the arms that move the wipers via a ball joint. The wiper arm has a plastic part that has to be "popped" off the ball of the motor to be able to remove the motor. It simply snaps back on. You facillitate this by removeing the black plastic air vent screen that runs across the engine are near the window. After removing this you will see the arms that control wiper movement. It helps to "undo" the ball/socket if the motor is loose also. Install is just the reverse.

I changed mine (1992) by removing the vented piece that runs between the windshield and the hood. Pop the hood and you will find screws to remove this as well as a a few screws from the top in between the grill type vents near the wiper blades. ( Remove the wiper arms and unscrew th antennae also) Lift this pc. out and you will gain access to the nuts that secure the motor to the firewall. Remove the motor harness, then disconnect the motor from the wiper connector. Try new motor by connecting to the harness and turning it on from the cab BEFORE you take anything apart. This will verify taht the motor is the problem. Good luck!

REPLACE THE MOTOR But first make sure the nut attaching the wiper cam to the motor is not loose or has slipped. When the wipers were turned off on my 2000 LS1 they stopped at 12:00. The ball joint link in the wiper linkage is either broken off or become disconnected. Look under the grid of the vent intake at the base of the outside of the windshield. usually there are a few plastic pins holding this into place.. Once removed you can see where the wiper motor is attached to the linkage . There is usually a long arm the runs across to the passenger wiper pinion ..check to see that the coupling is not broken or cracked. You will have to get a replacement from the dealer or junkyard. when installing or removing ..alway put the wipers in the parked position. If you don't , when you replace the part the wiper may be in the wrong position when you turn it off.
