are you talking about a sm. block hei. dist. if so there are 2 spade connectors on the side of the cap , one says tach.
The tach signal comes from the negative side of the coil.
hook your green wire from the tach to the white wire from the coil PAC it should be a white and a yellow wire coming from the coil. the tach should have a white wire that will be your light inside the tach a red wire for power and a black for ground.. good luck
Since the coil is in the distributor, simply hook the tach 'trigger' wire to the out put on the side of the distributor cap marked 'tach'.
at the tach it is white-pink green at coil
You would hook to the negative side of the coil. Some HEI distributor caps are marked "tach".
You do need a switched live to the bat terminal, but not to the tach terminal. The tach terminal is the negative side of the coil, the bat terminal is the positive side of the coil. Normally the tach terminal is for the green wire from the tach.
You will have to find the coil first.
my 94 has tach machined on the coil mine is a 4.6L
Hook it to the negative side of the coil.
If your car has a distributor it is the negative on the coil.
The green wire from the tach goes to the negative side of the coil.
Check the wire connections on the coil. If ok, the tach may be bad.
