I was 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant and was 2 cm dilated and my cervix was 70% ready for 2 weeks before I gave birth. I would say it is any time now... GOOD LUCK!!!
Not sure if it is common or not but I was diagnosed with a shortened cervix at 16 weeks. My cervix had fallen to 2.8. I was placed on bedrest for one week. At 17 weeks, it measured 2.3. At 18 weeks, my cervix grew to 3.4. So I do know that it is possible. Good luck.
In general 3-4 weeks during which you should not have sex due to the higher risk for infections.
Irritation from the doctors figures checking the cervix, or your in labor.
i have been 1 cm for 3 weeks now! I dont think that how dilated you are really matters unless you are in active labor!
All I can say is that I am 40 weeks 100% effaced and 2 cm dilated and I have not gone into labor. I am still waiting....
i went to the dr yesterday and am .5 cm diolted and mt cervix is short its at 2.1 do you think i will go to term? i gess there is a swab test that can determine if i will have the baby with in the next 2 weeks. is this true?
If your cervix is really 4cm dilated (not sure what the 80 is) at 34 weeks you should be at the hospital as your baby could be born anytime and at 34 weeks your baby will be pre-term and need extra support.
A trained person must examine your cervix (at the vault of your vagina) to measure this.Of course, dilation and labor go together in the pregnancy. A pregnant woman whose cervix is dilating is in labor, and there will be other signs of labor, such as painful contractions (it is the pressure of the uterine contraction that thins and opens -- dilates -- the cervix).
Not necessarily. You can start dialating early in pregnancy and still carry a baby to term. It can take weeks or even months to fully dialate once you have started.
It is a surgical method to clean out a uterus after a miscarriage, to perform an abortion past 9 weeks or to remove tumors. The cervix is dilated and the tool used to scrape the uterus wall is called a Curette.
When your midwife tells you that it means that your cervix is beginning to ripen and possibly efface and dilate. Currently im 1 cm dilated 60% effaced and have been in labor but not "active labor" for the past week. My cervix isn''t dilating so they dont consider that "active labor".
It could be hours, days or weeks. In my case, I was 36 weeks 6 days, lost the mucous plug and had the baby 5 hours later. But, from what I've read, there is no firm correlation between how dilated you are or losing the plug and the length of time you have left.
I am a labor and delivery nurse and see this all the time. The answer to the question is that the more children you have the more lax your cervix becomes. We call this, unofficially, a multip-cervix. If this is your fifth child having a cervix that is dialated even a few centimeters may just be the way your cervix is, not a sign of impending labor or even further dilitation at this point. You will most likely just walk around the rest of your pregnancy dilated 1+ cm. And that is normal and actually, to be expected from a cervix that has been dilated four times prior. Unless you are experiencing ongoing contractions, vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage you have not much to be concerned about. Of course make sure to keep your doctor updated with any changes in your condition. it only means that you are dialating early, I was 4 cm dialated when I had my daughter at 38 weeks, I dialated prior to giving birth with all my kids and they were all full term
your dilation can take as long as 2weeks or 2days depends on how active you are.
Means your 4cm dilated and they can see your water through your cervix. So it can break any time. Just left labor and delivery tonight I'm also 4cm and bulging with baby number 3!!
No, once you have dialated your cervix will not close.
At 39 weeks, it's normal to be in labor. An exam of the cervix could stimulate the uterus.
It could be later today it could be 3 weeks from now. Just because you are dilated to something doen'nt mean labor is anytime soon...sorry. I have been dilated to a 3 for 2 weeks now :(
No. On Octber 4th 1985 at 8am I was not dilated, at 1.55 pm I gave birth to my first child.
2 cm is a little less than 2 finger widths. That is how open your cervix is. It means some progress. I am the same and was hoping for change this week with no such luck. Any day now!!!
dilation can take weeks i know someone who walkked around for weeks dilated to a 3
definatly!! sounds like baby is getting ready! good luck x
No-one can tell, you may go into labor tonight or you may go another 2 weeks.
35 weeks along and 1.5 cm dilated 75 percent effaced? What does this mean?
my cervix is high soft and closed and I'm 5 weeks preg.
