Thils is a typical problem in the geo transmission. There is a check valve in the shift body of the transmission. It is easily fixed and costs next to nothing. If you haven't fixed it by now contact me and I'll give you the information. Mr Geo Metro leehduncan@Verizon.net
Yes they do, it has several. The most common is the shift solenoid which is located in the oil pan for the transmission.
On a 1996 4runner the transmission shift solenoid is under the pan in the valve body. There are two shift solenoids on the 4runner.
yes
transmission goes into gear but wont hardly move
It is inside the transmission
It's on the drivers side of the transmission.
It is bolted into the transmission valve body. You will have to remove the transmission pan to get to them.
Check transmission fluid level Change transmission fluid and filter
The cable between the shift lever and the transmission may be bad.

No, a 91 metro transmission will not fit in a 98. A 91 will fit any metro between 1988 - 1996 though. After 1996 a lot of Metro's became 4 Cylinder which made them different from the previous generation metros. It may fit if the engine sizes are correct (1.0 litre 3 cylinder to the same but do not mix and match).
may just be a transmission sensor - $20 part - start there...
