I would start with a voltage drop test on both be positive and negative side of the battery. I once had a Corvette in the shop that three other shops couldn't fix by replacing the alternator with a high output alternator. The car ran fine all day long with the air conditioning on, but when driving after dark with the air conditioning on the battery would inevitably go dead. This was a late 60s early 70s Corvette stingray with the battery mounted behind the driver's seat. The negative cable ran through a rubber grommet in the floor of the fiberglass body and bolted to the frame of the Corvette. By doing a voltage drop test on the negative side of the battery cable from the battery to the bolt on the frame I had about 3.5-4 volts of voltage drop if I remember correctly. The connections on both ends of the cable were clean, but where the cable went through the rubber grommet, the cable looked like it was pregnant. I removed the negative battery cable and inspected the bulging cable insulation and could see absolutely no nicks or wear marks on the cable insulation at all, yet when I cut the cable open in that area it was full of green corrosion. I replaced the negative battery cable (less than a $5 repair) and the customer never had any more problems from that point on, and we dealt with him for several years after that.
It depends on the condition of the belt(s) and how recently it (they) have been changed. If you're certain that the belt was changed recently and is in good condition you could probably get by without replacing it (them)
i have changed the alternator and voltage regulator and it still wont charge ; 84 Plymouth reliant
While replacing the alternator a vacuum line might have been disconnected or something like that... inspect for something loose close to the alternator dave
yes just use a torx socket to remove the 6 screws holding the regulator / brushbox unit secured to the alternator... remove electrical connections to the regulator first...easy!
probably it can be changed but if you change the whole alternator you will gain a new alternator for your engine in opposite of changing only the bearing which is not guaranteed.
Unless things have changed, the diodes are part of the alternator. The voltage regulator is attached to the alternator but the diodes are part of the alternator.
The frequency is changed by varying its speed, and the the voltage is changed by varying its field current.
The 2000 Dodge Caravan alternator can be changed by removing the alternator belt. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Loosen and remove the alternator retaining bolts. Install the new alternator by reversing the process.
its the baterry
Yes it changed recently.
Just changed the alternator on my 2000 vw golf and now can't get the alternator belt back on - any suggestions?
The regulator for the 1997 Ford Thunderbird is bolted on the back of the alternator. While the regulator can be changed separately it is more commonly changed along with the alternator.
