It is likely that you have lost a master fuse or fusible link. The headlights are nearly always powered directly from the battery through a fusible link or large, under hood fuse.
the common cause why the light is on is that your alternator is not working well, try to have your alternator checked .may be the carbon brush is already worn out.
You have a problem with the charging system. More than likely the alternator has failed.
More than likely it has something to do with the voltage regulator which is built into the alternator. You will probably need to replace the alternator soon. Take it off and to an auto parts store and they will test it for you.
how do u replace alternator belt on 2002 mazda protege 5 stationwagon

SORRY I FORGOT;CAR IS;1994 Nissan Altima GXE AUTOMATIC;THANKS.
Clean both ends of both battery cables and make SURE there is a good ground cable between the engine and body. If this fails, take it to auto zone and have them check the alternator output.
One of two things is normally wrong. Either the battery has a dead cell and will not accept a charge, or the alternator is defective. With the engine running at idle check the voltage at the battery with a digital voltmeter set to the 20 Volt DC scale. If the alternator is good you should read from 13.5 to 15.5 Volts. If the alternator has a separate drive belt then it is possible the drive belt is broken.
where is fuse for 97 Mazda protege ? and other fuses for headlights cause they don't come on help ?
you have to loosen the top alternator bolt alowing the alternator to swing forward loosening the belt
