I was driving and all of the sudden I had to push the clutch to the floor with no resisitance and it was difficult to engage the gears. What happened?

Your a bad driver get a license
the problem may be that the timing chain or belt has broken
No you were driving and it quit.and if it cranks it is turning over. check for spark at the spark plugs and also for fuel pressure at the injector rail.
A very dirty fuel filter or a fuel pump going bad.
If the engine stalls and won't restart for several hours on a 2003 Santa Fe, there is a problem with the computer in the vehicle. Check to make sure all computer fuses are working properly.
maybe a siezed water pump, or worse yet, blown head gasket.
Start with a new fuel filter since it is relatively cheap, then check the fuel pump if the problem persists. Actually, the problem was with the Distributor Stator.
It sounds like your car over heated while you were driving it. You should have it towed to a mechanic so that they can fix the problem.
