The recommended service intervals for Peugeot engines is 72,000 miles
The 306 TD was fitted with two types of engine, the XUD which had a metal cam cover mounted under the intercooler and a DW10 (HDI) engine that should have a plastic cover over the top of the engine secured by 4 clips and a black plastic cam cover.
The early XUD engines (as fitted to the Peugeot 405) has a service interval of 48,000 miles.
Note:-Be aware that oil leaks that may cause the contamination of the rubber timing belt can cause premature failure of the timing belt and damage to the engine internals

I had this Problem once on an old Nissan. Once i changed the switch the problem continued. What resolved the issue was changing the ballast resistor located on the blower housing, Once i changed this resistor, all my speeds became available again.
