Your 98 ford explorer sport is not recognizing gears you shift to D and the car will not go but the engine will rev up then the gear shifts and the car will go how would you fix this problem?

That is typical of a hydraulic pressure problem INSIDE the transmission. Sometimes it's as simple as a dirty filter or low fluid level, other times it's a pump problem or bad seals that are allowing pressurized oil to leak. Sometimes you can squeeze a little extra life out of a transmission by putting in a can of transmission seal conditioner, such as Trans-X. Usually when a transmission starts doing what you describe, it's done.

The 1995 Cavalier could have a stopped up transmission filter, or a vacuum solenoid problem. These would be the two most likely places to cause the problem.

most common problem is the ( Transmission Control Solenoid ) . it controls the way the transmission shifts by controlling the amount of vacuum. when it malfunctions it shifts either very hard or seems to slip between shifts. also you will feel a pulsing sometimes when at or around 35 mph on flat ground. problem seems more pronounced after engine is completely warmed up. the part it's self is only about 26.00 dollars , not sure what they charge for labor as i replaced it myself. seemed to cure the problem.

Sounds like a suspension problem, ball joint or bushes. Jack up the car and see if either front wheel has excessive play.
