Sounds like you might have a bad starter relay.
If the battery turns the engine over as it should then the battery is good.
Answer Red cable (+) goes to starter solenoid and Positive side of battery Black (-) cable goes to engine ground. When disconnecting a battery always disconnect the ground cable from the battery first. When connecting a battery always connect the ground cable to the battery last.
It depends on the kind of vehicle. If it's a ford, you might just need a solenoid. Some fords have an external solenoid, mounted on the drivers side wheel well. Some vehicles have a solenoid integral to the starter. In those you might need a starter.
To the right of the battery, when looking at engine.
Connection from battery to starter is bad, starter is bad or engine is bad. It's usually not the engine. Start by clearing the connection. If you can get good access to the bendix on the starter, a quick test is to run a jumper cable (the ones you use to jump start the car are great for this) from the positive post on the battery to the battery bolt on the starter solenoid. Clamp it on, take the car out of gear and use a short jumper to connect the keyswitch lug on the solenoid to the side of the jumper cable clamp. Make this jumper by crimping a push-on connector to each end of a foot-long piece of 12-gauge stranded wire. If the car cranks good, just change the cable from the starter to the battery and you're done. If it doesn't work, pull the starter and have it tested.
I would guess you either have a faulty solenoid or you have the positive connected to the wrong side of it. the wiring for the lights and other accessories is usually connected to one side of the solenoid .Likely your bike sat in storage and the battery went bad or, you put off buying a battery and keep nursing it along. . Then u tried to start it with a weak or bad battery. The start relay gets lazy and sticks due to the weak voltage. So, when you try and connect the battery, the engine cranks by itself. The bike will crank even with the key in your pocket. This is an expensive repair as likely the relay, starter are both fried. There is an update kit from BMW moving the relay out in the open for the next time it happens. Best to use a small float charger like a battery tender to prevent his from happining again.
Connect the positive + red charger cable to the positive + red battery post. Then connect the negative - black charger cable to the engine somewhere. Most engines have something metal sticking up that you can connect to. Do not connect the negative charge cable to the negative battery post, always connect it to the engine.
it's easy to check the solenoid, put a screw driver across the large nut & the smaller one, and if the starter engages it's the solenoid .make sure the vehicle is in park, or the e- brake is on. ( with key on)
What year? What is it doing? A 12 valve has a fuel shut off solenoid that commonly malfunctions, the engine cranks but never starts.
Just connect the battery to the motorcycle battery cables with jumper cables and then start it.
The starter on the 2002 Saturn vue is located on the front underside of the engine, follow the positive(red) cable from the battery and it should connect to the solenoid which is part of the starter.
Yes connect the positive first to the positive battery post, and then connect the negative ground to the engine somewhere and not to the battery.
