No This Doesn`t Seem To Be. Are You Sure You Have A Belt Or Timing Chain ? Only Oil Should Be In The Timing Chain Cover. Suggest You Have Another Mechanic Look At This. Also You Can Get Good Information At A Radiator Shop They Can Pressure Test Your Engine Cooling System.
On 87 and later 2.8 and 3.1 V6 engines, coolant runs through the crankcase front cover (timing cover). According to Haynes.
Yes , engine coolant can get in an engine cylinder from a bad head gasket , a warped or cracked cylinder head , a bad intake manifold gasket etc. ( P.S. I'm not a mechanic / technician )
There is coolant on the ground occasionally. How will I know when the intake manifold gasket is leaking
The Intake gasket is leaking, NOT THE HEAD GASKET. Replace the intake gasket
It is possible that the gasket could leak between cylinders. The overheating and coolant loss would happen if the gasket was failing around the coolant passages.
The head gasket.
Drain coolant, disconnect the battery. Disconnect the coolant line, replace the thermostat with a new one. Do not forget to replace the gasket too. Reconnect the line. Refill coolant, connect the battery.
take it to a mechanic, unless you are a mechanic, then say "oh crap i am screwed"
Having a head gasket replaced on a 2000 Amigo can be replaced but it can be hard depending on if the mechanic has the right instructions. Also, depending on the condition of the head gasket can depend on how hard it is replace the gasket.
When it was damaged. If you don't have coolant leakage, but the level collant drops down it means you have internal leakage of coolant. You must replace the head gasket of course if want to drive your car. van over heats
Never have seen a bad head gasket on a 3800 engine. The upper intake will leak coolant into the imtake ports and a greedy mechanic will tell you it's head gaskets. You may need to replace your oil pan gasket with a felpro perma dry gasket, cost more but worth it.
It is possible for engine oil to float on engine coolant. This occurs when there is a leaking or blown gasket.
There isnt one. Replace the gasket. Additives are worthless. If you add something to your coolant to clog gasket tears then what else are you clogging?? Water pump, heater core, radiator? Replace the gasket.
