the top of the thermostat housing there is a bleeder valve. if you have changed the thermostat the best thing is to fill the engine with the proper coolant first then install thermostat. pull the upper radiator hose up and fill with coolant keep hose above radiator then install start engine let get warm and carefully open valve to let out air when you see coolant shut let run then repeat.
If there is not bleed valve for the coolant you will have to do it manually. Fill the radiator up and start the car. After it warms up the coolant level will drop, refill it.

I am a Ford master techician but I have an '87 camaro and have run into the same problem. It seems that no matter how much you try to bleed the system it will not purge the air. I own a tool that is primarily used for placing coolant systems under a vacuum and then, while the cooling system is under vacuum, it sucks in the coolant leaving the system air free. I had to use this device on my clutch system to get the air out and it was very decisive.
To bleed air from the cooling system, take off the radiator cap and let the engine run. IF there is no radiator cap(some vehicle manufacturers have done away with them, just add coolant to the overflow tank to the correct level. The cooling system will purge air out on it's own
