Door handle to what?
Remove the inside door panel from your 1984 Chevy Caprice. Remove the door handle linkage. Remove the door handle retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new exterior door handle.

Remove door panel for access and investigation
remove the interior door panel and you can get at the door handle, disconnect the rod and loosen the clips that hold it against the door, the whole assembly will come right out.

You will need to remove the door panel. There are two 10mm nuts you will need to remove, then disconnect the clip that holds the wire to the handle and push the clips holding the handle to the door outward being careful that to break the clips. Replace in the reverse.
To install an exterior door handle on a Cherokee Jeep, first remove the window crank handle and the three screws in the inner door trim panel. Second, remove the inner door panel from the door using a trim stick and take off the vapor barrier inside the door. Third, remove the nut on the rear of the door handle, position the exterior door handle, and secure in place.

In order to remove a house door handle, you will need to take a screwdriver and remove the screws from the exterior of the door. Once the screws are removed, the handle should simply pop out.
