There are two basic styles of plugs--gasketed and gasketless. The crush washer is the gasket and it is crimped in place at the factory. When you tighten a new gasketed plug, you finger-tighten it until the gasket contacts then you give it about a turn and a half more with a wrench. Once you have done that once and you take the plug back out, the gasket will have been crushed and you don't want to give it that extra turn and a half if you put it back in. The gasketless plugs get screwed in until they contact then you give it about a half turn more with a wrench. Follow the recommendations for tightening in a good shop manual.
That is the gasket. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX A gasket or washer is NOT required on a tapered seat spark plug.
This question bothers me, the spark plug will come equipped with a washer if it is needed. If it is the type that can come off it will slip on quite easily. Most spark plugs do not use washers! But some do and need them!
Could be a few reasons, and can't be pinpointed without me actually seeing it "in action". But here are the most likely reasons, in order of likleyhood: 1) Spark plug not tightened to proper specs. Fix: tighen plug to proper specs with torque wrench. 2) Spark plug "washer" bad or gone. Fix: Replace washer. 3) Spark plug seals bad. Fix: Replace spark plug. 4) Bad threads in spark plug hole. Fix: Retap, or "Helicoil" it. 5) Crack in head near spark plug hole. Fix: Replace head.
Is the old washer still stuck on the block?
Additionally information- new crush washer used not overtorqued/pan not stripped
Is it required to change the crush washer on the engine oil pan drain plug
first you remove the four bolts out of each front shroud on the gas tank. next you take the two ten millimeter bolts out of the rear side panels. after that you remove the seat and detach the tank from the bike by removing an 8 millimeter screw up by the steering post and a rubber strap at the end of the tank. after that disconnect the fuel line from the left side of the carberater and take the tank out. after removing the tank you can see the top of the motor and then pull the spark plug cap after that insert the tool provided with the owners Manuel and twist the plug out. then when putting the plug in make sure you crush the crush washer on the new spark plug and after that plug you cap on and do all these steps backwards and your set.
There is no need to remove anything. But the wires. Just do it one at a time. Remove wire don't matter witch one you start with. Next you gonna need a socket that will fit your plug and a ratchet extension. Stick the socket down in the spark plug tube and lossen the plug all the way. Next use the wire you removed and stick it back on the old plug and pull the old plug out with the wire. Gap new plug drop in hole tighten till you crush the crush washer on the new plug. Witch dont take to much force so be carefull. Replace wire and do the same for the rest. Hope this helps.
A small bit of oil, if on the firing end or at the initial threads is acceptable, but may indicate wear along the rings or head gasket. Oil in the area above the crush washer and threads (where the plug wire is connected) could indicate that the plug was not in tightly enough, or that your valve cover gasket needs to be replaced.
If you mean that the wire came out of the boot, then pull the boot off of the spark plug and use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plug.
Spark plug wire not connected to spark plug? Spark plug wire connected to Wrong spark plug? Vacuum line disconnected? Bad spark plug or wire?
To change the spark plugs in a Chevy Celebrity: 1. Give the spark plug boot a twist to free it up from the spark plug, then pull on the boot to remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. 2. Use a 5/8" spark plug socket with an extension and ratchet or breaker bar to loosen then remove the spark plug. 3. Set the gap on the new plug to .045" then screw it back into the spark plug hole in the head. Tighten the spark plug and replace the spark plug wire. I change the spark plugs one at a time to keep from getting the spark plug wires on the wrong spark plug.
