First, check the fuse box under the hood, you may get lucky and only have to replace a fuse. Fuse locations are labeled.
Second, If there is condensation or water inside the tail light, you could have dirty or bad wiring harness. Disconnect the battery before proceeding to troubleshoot.
Buy a cheap conductor cleaner from a local auto store. Open the trunk and unscrew the tail light from the car. This is very easy. Disconnect the wiring harness from the hosing which holds the bulbs. Try cleaning both ends of the housing and harness. Reconnect the battery and try the lights again.
If it still doesn't work, you may need to replace the wiring harness or the housing that holds the bulbs. About $40 to replace at the dealer, if the auto parts store does not carry them.
Keep your receipt for a refund if that doesn't work. I had water in mine, and overtime the conductors rusted so I had to replaced the harness. Simple to do. GOOD LUCK!
The 2007 Chevrolet Malibu tail light fuse can be found in the fuse box. The tail light fuse will be in the second column, third from the top.
Tail Lights Fade was created on 1999-12-03.
replace fuse
The tail lights and plate lights are on the same fuse, if the tail light come on it is not the fuse. Plate lights are not checked that often and it is common for them both to be brunt out when they are noticed.
Have you checked the bulb?
NoNo
The tail light fuse for a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LT is typically located in the fuse box under the dashboard on the driver's side. It is usually a 15-amp fuse, but it's always best to consult the owner's manual for the exact specifications and location. If you experience issues with the tail lights, checking this fuse is a good first step.
It could be the brake light switch (the switch that activates the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal) has gone bad
Check the fuses first then check the bulbs.
change the headlight switch it controls the running lights....$15 at autozone
I have the same problem with my 1999. The tail lights as well as the interior instrument panel and the license plate lights are all not working.
