Yes, well it is a coil, but they call it something different. you can find it under the destributor cap, it will be right under it. it looks like a black round like disk with a wire coming off it. that is what mine was when it did that. so try that out, it is a 20 min job. 2 screws. Good Luck...Jeep mamaits called a pickup coil i replaced it alreadyand the crank shaft sensor, and plugs, wires, cap, rotor and the coil is good just no spark from distributor...posted by spiked2u(original postor of question)
From about 90 and later when they when to the ecm, The crank position sensor creates the ground for the fuel injection and the coil through the ecm. I might add that if you creck for voltage at the coil + you'll get 12 volts only for the first two second prime until the shut down relay comes on. It will stay of until the ecm gets the pulse from the cps. Hope this helps
On these Jeeps with the 4.0L Inline 6, the Crankshaft Position Sensor is usually At Fault when there is a no start/no spark condition. Try checking the resistance of the sensor, and check the adjustment of the sensor.
.
check you icu (ingnition control unit) hope it helps
I had the same problem with mine, you should check your fuel pressure. My pump went out and I replaced it and it ran fine. I also had this problem....i learned after 400 dollars worth of useless repairs that it was the crank angle/posititon sensor on the top part of the transmission. they have a tendancy to ground out on your exaust and fry out. so check that wiring harness first. the sensor is a magnetic pickup and the sensor useually does not go out, the wiring harness does. it costs 79-83 bucks depending on where you shop. Good luck.
Check for bad crankshaft position sensor, empty fuel tank, or faulty fuel pump. Check in that order, please.
Check the Crankshaft position sensor
I do not have an answer but I also have a 1994 Toyota Camry that will not start and has no spark, I swapped out the ignition module to no avail, the distributor and rotor appear fine. Any help
It has fuel or spark problems. Next time it doesn't start check for spark. If it has good spark it must be a fuel issue. Maybe a failing fuel pump. Try spraying a little starting fluid down into the throttle body and try to start it. If you get some response you probably have a fuel problem.
Several things could be causing the 1994 Cherokee to have this problem. There could be a drop in fuel pressure. There could also be a problem with the ignition circuit like a coil pack breaking down as it gets hot. Check these areas to start with.
It could be the timing belt jumps (wrong timing spark) or the faulty pressure regulator (to much fuel ro to little)
I have a 93 Suzuki Sidekick and it wont start either. The spark seams to come and go. Also the spark seems like it is late? I have replace the timing belt the Coil and the ignitor on top of the coil as well. The compression also is fine. did you check for spark at the coil when it goes? does test fuel start car. is car flooding? look at plugs, wet and stinks of fuel? bad fuel bad cam timing. bad front of crank key way , sheered or mangled thowing timing way off flooding, try WOT cranking to clear fold , WOT shuts off all FUEL on kicks. miss timed Distributor. horrible bad need of a tune up.
The ignition module uses the crank sensor to decide when to spark.
crank sensor
The spark plug gap for the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2L (318CID V8 is .035".
I have 1994 Mitsubishi eclipse and have no spark i change cam and crank sensor but still no have spark can be icu
call advanced auto
.35 to .40
You need three things for the engine to run, compression, fuel and spark. You say you have fuel now check for spark.
.035 inch
Does it crank?
It doesn't have a crankshaft sensor, it still uses the distributor. 1995 4.3 and earlier do not use a crank sensor. Spark is contolled by the distributor and the ECM. Check for spark when it doesn't start. If it has spark but won't start check for fuel pressure. My guess would be a faulty fuel pump, very common with GM trucks.
you flooded it
The 1994 Acura can have several problems to cause it from starting. Check for fire at the spark plugs, and check the crank and cam sensors for any issues.
