check your battery post terminals for good clean connection. If no problem there then you might have a bad generator. Your generator might not be charging your battery. If you installed a new battery and ran your bug all day chances are that your engine was running off of the battery which was not being recharged by your generator. As soon as you turned off your engine and tried to re-start it, your battery did not have enough juice to crank the engine over. Good luck.

Ford Ranger 2001 4-cylinder sometimes won't start battery alternator wires wires to battery and starter are good?

Will it even crank? If it won't, you have an ignition switch or lock cylinder going bad. If it does crank, just not running, then check to make sure fuel pressure is good and that the ignition coil is good. When exactly will it not start?

What is wrong if the car will jump start Ok but the motor dies when the lights are turned on?

It sounds like the battery only has enough of a charge to run the ignition and the alternator is not contributing anything so as soon as you put additional load on it, the engine dies from lack of power for the ignition coil. If you have a volt meter, check the battery voltage BEFORE you start the engine. If it'needs a jump-start again do so and start the engine. Then remove the jumper cables and test the voltage level in the battery with the engine RPM at around 1000. With the engine running it should be somewhere near 13.5 Volts. If it's anything less than 12 V, you have a problem with the alternator.

Why would a car be completely dead with no lights electronics or ignition after it was just running fine?

The only thing that comes to mind in a situation where a car that was running a short time ago and now is COMPLETELY DEAD is a failure of the battery or the primary cables/connections. I'd begin by checking the cable connections at the ends on the battery. The ends at the battery are more prone to failure than the other ends, but check both ends of the cables starting at the battery side. One would be wise to do this with caution, or, if lacking sufficient expertise, with some help.

What would make a car die when stopping after cleaning the battery connections?

I hope you did not remove a battery post while the engine was running (don't do it)? If so, it may cause damage to your alternator, and it will short out your ignition in the engine (engine stops). If there is no damage, it should work after reconnecting the battery posts. If you didn't do the above situation, I would check for a loose connection on the terminal or a corroded/broken cable. I hope you did not remove a cable from the positive or negative battery posts while the engine was running (don't do it)? If you didn't do the above situation, I would check for a loose connection on the terminal or a corroded/broken cable. THe computer may need alittle time to relearn idle.

Can a loose positive battery cable prevent the alternator from charging the batter and can it cause a battery drain while the engine is not running?

Yes, a loose battery cable will prevent the alternator from charging the battery. The drain on the battery is not caused by the engine not running unless an accessory is left on. Most likely, the drain is caused by accessories (radio, lights, etc) while the engine is running due to the battery not receiving its charge from the alternator and then not having enough charge left to start the engine.

What happen to a car when it stays on the whole night?

Depends if you have the ignition running or just the say you left the lights on. If you just left the ignition on all night nothing will happen except just running out of fuel. If you left your lights on without ignition running your battery will die.

What would cause the car to keep running once ignition turned off if headlights were still on?

Headlights run off the battery not the ignition...

Why is your 1973 super beetle wont stay running after disconet the battery?

Because the ignition is powered directly from the battery. The Gen/Alt only feeds the battery.

What can make a battery drain when car is not running?

mainly leaving your lights on when the engine is of or leaving the keys in the ignition

Why does your ford ranchero turn off when you diconnect the battery?

It has a Generator that suppllies power to the ignition system through the Battery. New vehicles have an Alternator that makes it's own power once it is running directly to the ignition system.

If the ignition is off and the Battery shows 11.5 volts when the engine is running shows 13.6 Volts?

It shows that your battery is in workable condition and your alternator is charging as it should.

Can a cigarette lighter drain the car battery if the car is on?

If the car is on (Ignition is on, engine is running) then no. Nothing should drain the battery when the car is running, there is a device called an alternator with a belt that usually goes around the crankshaft that transforms the mechanical energy into electrical energy. As long as you have the car running, the battery should not die. If so, you have a mechanical problem.
